The Final Blog
Over the years we never really think about the things that we do everyday or the things we do. We also don’t realize that rely on technology to get by. It wasn’t until I took Electronic Communications that I realized how much we use technology everyday. Through this class I have learned that a text message way more than I talk on the phone and that I would rather do research online than actually go to the library. During this class I started to pay attention to how much I am on the computer and the people around me. I have also realized that whenever I had to use the computer for anything I would do other things on the computer before I actually started doing what I need to do. I have noticed a difference about my CMC habits, from the time I was younger till now. When I was younger I was all about the internet and browsing the web but the older I got the more I strayed away from it. Then I started to stray away from AOL and all things that surround that. This class has made me want to get back into the whole CMC thing but before this class I was just kind of bored with the internet and the things that surround it. This course only caused me to have one oh wow memory that I can recall and it was when we first started blogging and doing the questions for the chapter. I think the only reason why I felt like oh wow was because I was out of the loop and confused by blogging in the beginning. Only because I strayed away from CMC and felt like I had to relearn how to do everything. I haven’t changed the way I use CMC now but in the feature maybe I will. In my personal life I think CMC is going to be big just because we use it and everything we do and it’s only getting more advanced as time goes on. I feel as if no matter what kind of job I get CMC will be important because it’s going to be an essential necessity. I think I will look at every aspect of CMC from now on and take things that I have learned in this class and apply it to everyday life. I will look differently at how people view CMC because now I have a general understanding of what it is and all the things that happen in CMC. I’m not sure what kind of things I learned but I know everything was essential and that I will know what I learned by applying it in the feature. I did learn how to blog and how to comment on blogs, but I also learned the differences between certain types of blogs. This course was different from what I expected because I thought this class was just going to be a class where we talked about things that happened in CMC and what technology has done and how it’s going to continue to grow. Not only did I think that but I definitely didn’t think there were going to be online classes and discussions or hands on activities. All in all the class was a learning experience in many different ways although it wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be.

You've Got Mail
"You've Got Mail" the sound of America Online. When I hear this now i'm annoyed by it but I can remeber a time where I used to run home and sign on to AOL to check my mail or to see who was online. When I was younger I loved getting mail from people whether I knew them or not but when I was growing up I can't recall a time where I've gotten a random e-mail from someone that I didn't know and kept in contact with them. Over the years AOL has progressed and has added many features to entice us into using that e-mail system. While watching You've got Mail it made me think about all these systems we use to communicate with one another and how we have really become dependant on e-mail. At Westminster alone we use e-mail to cancel classes, to keep us updated with what's going on, to ask for help, to schedule appointments, and much more. I never realized how much we use e-mail, the internet, the web or whatever it is we use but it has become a part of our everyday life. I remember earlier in our class we talked about how people would rather chat or text than have a normal conversation. I have one question for myself and everyone else; Can we survive without this modern technology that we have become so dependant on? In the movie they each ran to some computer to check their e-mails. I have realized that I 'm the same way when it comes to checking myspace or facebook. I have recently found myself browsing the web a lot more and being really into the whole myspace thing. When I was watching the movie I thought about myspace because we recieve messages and request to be friends with people we don't know. I know for a fact that some people who use myspace go back and forth with messages so it's just like reciving mail through a regular e-mail company. It amazes me how technology has changed over the years and how it's continuing to grow. Not only that when You've Got Mail came out the whole internet thing was just starting to sky rocket but now internet dating and chatting is way different and a lot more safe. I'm still indifferent about it and not really sure how I feel.

Online Dating
In the article we read for class it basically talked about online dating. It talked about the ups and downs about it. I'm not really a big fan of online dating so it was something I never looked into but after reading the article I find online dating interesting. I think that online dating is dangerous because you never really know if the person on the other end is really telling you the truth or even being honest about everthing or Vice Versa. Online dating has many different aspects and can be looked at in many different ways. I personally feel that it depends on the type of person you are and what you like if you can handle a online relationship. Although I love facebook and Myspace, Online dating is not really an option for me. I'm the type of girl that loves to meet new people but I don't think I can ever develop a relationship through the internet. I know some people that have met online and it has been a success. This article has made me look at online dating completely different but it still hasn't persuaded me to believe that online dating is safe.
In the article I was more interested in online relationships when she started to express her feelings and when the guy stated that he didn't know what he wanted. Although this is taking place online it reminded me of a real relationship. When we have face to face relationships we sometimes don't understand things or know exactly what we want. I find it amazing to see how online dating has changed and become more popular over the years and more and more people are trying it out.

Left Behind in technology
As I was reading for this class I discovered that everyone hasn't had the chance to expriment using computers or the internet. What caught my attention even more is that some people have never used a telephone before in their life. Where as for us, some of us can't live without a phone especially our cell phones. But we are so caught up in our own lives that we don't stop to think about those people who can't afford a phone yet a lone a cell phone. I know I didn't think about that until I read because my cell phone is my best friend when I don't have my cell phone I feel lost. Don't get me wrong there were times when I couldn't afford a cell phone but I still didn't think about those people who have never had a phone period. At least if we don't have a cell phone whe had our house phones to depend on. The next thing that caught my eye when I was reading was the fact the people don't have computers or the internet becuase they can't afford it. I guess I never really paid attention to how much computers or the internet cost because I hadn't had to buy either one of those things. When I came to college it was then when I realized how exspenive computers and laptops are. Up until the reading the price of having the internet never occured to me. Once again we are so caught up in our lives and cultures that we don't realize that there are people out there that have never came across those things. Because we don't think or even pay attention we forget about everbody else or assume that everbody is on the same page as we are. Then we come to find out that everbody is not up to date as we are. What makes this whole CMC thing more interesting to me is that in one of my other classes we are currently attempting to work with a gruop of girls from Kenya and it's been a task because they don't have internet access the way that we do. So it takes a while for them to respond which makes this a difficult task but also creates a great learning experince. With that being said it goes to show how around the world everybody isn't up to date and how they can't afford to be.
